“Burnout is a bone-tired, soul-tired, heart-tired kind of exhaustion.”

This quote is from James W. Pennebaker, a social psychologist and Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin.

Do you feel this?

  • Do you feel bone-tired and heart-tired?
  • What about soul-tired?
  • Exhausted maybe?

I know I do. I also know a lot of you do as well.

How do I know this?

  • I’ve spoken to a young founder dealing with the pressure of growing a startup.
  • I’ve exchanged direct messages and emails with creators who feel swallowed up by the chase for engaged followers.
  • I’ve had heart-to-hearts with people around the world about the struggle of being a leader, parent, professional, spouse — and all the above.

I also know because I live it myself. I’m damn tired.

Reframe your burnout

“Burnout, like any difficult experience, is a great teacher. My question is: What is it trying to tell you?”

Thanks, for this one, Dr. Rebecca Ray. It really helped frame what I’ve started to…
